most of the programs i wanted to stop were, like HP updates(doesnt work), HP imaging software(opens up on startup even when printers not connected), Plaxohelper(i have no idea what it is, but when it starts up it closes leaving process open), and some of the quicktime junk
closing those made the 3 minute wait on startup turn to like 30 seconds

hmmm I'd like to cut down my starting up time too! I got into msconfig then the popup has about 5-7 tags...I went to services and turned off some not working junk...what else should I turn off?
EDIT-basically my goal is to keep my computer working but speed it up

so I don't want to turn off anything that is essential. I remember a friend who made a very simple virus where a program finds and deletes an essential file.
Well, it'd be impossible to list all of the possible things you should turn off, since there's probably 500000 variations of malware and just plain annoying startup apps out there.
I wouldn't really recommend turning off any services unless you're positive it's malware, since 99% of them are legit and many are critical system services.
