I know this post is kinda old, but got some ideas for making Maple foes more interesting.
It would be nice that most enemies do an attack animation, instead of just slamming against you.
Other idea is to make them to chase you down when you come in their sight (using Dark Sight will avoid this)
Would be fun to see the orange mushrooms preparing themselves to jump against you, Stone Golems move their arms and legs trying to smash you with them.
Besides that, put more monsters that causes some kind of abnormality like poison or stunning at lower levels (since mid 30's would be ok) so the challenge will raise.
Other thing that crossed my mind is to make a set of enemy warriors, archers and wizards, with some attack animations, like watching a skeleton soldier using poer strike against you.
I know that this ideas probably will never see the light, due the efforts to make animations and the codification for them

I was thinking more to a Diablo 2 style.
One example is an enemy that posess a skill called "Corpse Explotion" that is only used by the Necromancer Class.

There are these skeletons that ride horses in the Mine extension of perion, at the very end of it, and they do a poison mist when attacked which does 190 damage every second you're in the mist, i died at first thinking there was a fire mage doing that

The Robot idea reminds me of the last dungeon in Zelda: Wind Waker, with all the black and white bosses from earlier in the game.

Magic Defense: 900
Basicly a Crimson Rog with gladiator armour. It had no flying skill that the other rogs though. Resistance to all magic attacks except claw, bolt, fire arrow and cold beam. Uses a giant Omega Spear as a weapon.
Magic: Frostburn Bolt: Fire and Ice launched at a single character. Base attack: 150
Black Death: Black fog that poisons all characters, regardless of resistances.
Charge: Similar to Power Strike, rog is stunned after using it. Attack: 250%
Occasionily, another type of rog will fly in for backup.
Drops Gladiator helmets (like Zakum Helmets) and level 90-100 equips.
Mesos: 1'000'000 to 2'500'000
The only problem is that only mages got the poison resistence, would be nice to get equips to gain resistence against elements.
Other idea I've got is a kind of warlord
High Demon Lord
Hostile: Commands a lot of minions to autlock a nearby player.
Teleport: Can get in close-quarters and get out in a small time, good agaist everyclass.
Spectral hit: Random elemental attack and/or anormal status (only works with melee attack)
Shockwave: Emits a warcry that causes an impact wave that repels any player in the effect area.
Slow Impact Imbuing: Imbues his minions weapons with ice or fire spells (their ice attack will greatly slow the player, including attack and casting speed)
Fallen's explotion: Makes a bomb with a fallen minion remains (I would like to use corpe, but Maple foes doesn't leave them) dealing some fire/physical damage to the player
Last will: Summons a flow of minions before this enemy is "complety" dead.
Demon Minion (melee)
Slash: Uses a slash to attack a player
Leap: Jumps towards a player to deal a greater impact
Demon Minion (ranged physical)
Death from avobe: Shoots a deadly arrow towards a random player (unavoidable)
Shot: Common arrow shot, directed in an arc movement (avoidable)
They wouldn't be intended to be a slow spawn, but they would be a good challenge for all, including the lord.
