Pardon my ignorance, but I know that for "young" pets the threat exists that they be reset to level 1. At what point does that no longer affect pets?

lvl 50 or higher your lvl cant be reset to 1 by the lab ray

No one's really sure. There have been a couple reports of the lab resetting a level 20ish pet back to level 1, but I've never seen a screenshot, and last time we had a thread like this, someone said they'd read in an old editorial that it was a glitch.

Many people (me included) believe that it works like this: let's say you have a level 2 pet, and the lab decides it wants to do the "lose 2 levels" thing on this zap. Obviously you can't actually lose 2 levels, as pets can't be level 0. So instead of saying "and he loses 2 levels!" the lab will say "and he goes down to level 1!" I've never had a pet get that message unless he was very low-level, and I've zapped a lot. I would say you're probably safe at level 10 or even 5... but of course, there is a possibility I'm wrong.

If you CAN drop 10 or more levels at once, though, I would really, really like to see some proof, because in six years of playing Neopets, I've only heard of this happening twice (and neither person got a screenshot or other proof).

Regardless if level resets exist or not, I'd say that the occurance is so rare that there isn't much warrant for concern.
