It buys all the high-profit items for you. They are illegal, so dont use them.

An autobuyer is an item that you set to program to buy a certain item from a certain shop. Basically how it works is you load a list of items you want the program to buy. It refreshes the shop. When it sees new items, it'll see if any of the items on the list are there, and it will proceed to buy it.
Obviously, like Babybahamut said, it's illegal and freezable. o_o

From my post on nBn Forum:
In short, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THESE FILES.
The programs advertised very rarely work, and are not allowed by neopets anyway. They are very easy to detect, and you will be caught if you use them. Also, since they are advertised on a public forum that TNT knows about, TNT will easily be able to match our username son here to our neopets usernames, and thus be able to check if we suddenly start doing very well.
However, there are many other reasons not to download these files.
These files often contain viruses that install silently onto your computer. By downloading these files you are giving these viruses free reign of your computer.
Sometimes these files require you install files to a folder called system32 in order to work. This folder contains system files that are required for Windows to operate. Placing new files amongst these is a MAJOR RISK as these files open massive security holes in your computers basic security measures that allow hackers, viruses, spyware and all other malicious files into your computer with little resistance. Firewalls are not garunteed to stop this.
Some of these files may be cookie grabbers which opens up not only your neopets account but any password you are currently using. By installing these files you are allowing free access to your cookies.
These files can and will log your keystrokes giving access to any passwords you type in, including your windows logon and any administrative passwords you use.
my last point, but most certainly not the last reason, is you are potentially giving access to ALL of your personal files. This includes any creative work you are working on, any spreadsheet or other document of your bank accounts, and any file containing personal details which can be used to target you or steal your identity.
Remember, the people who create these programs are very greedy. Why would they try and help you for free?
DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING CLAIMING TO BE A NEOPETS PROGRAM OR YOU ARE PUTTING YOURSELF AT MAJOR RISK.

I've actually used an AB before. Yes, I got iced. D: Sue me. Therefore, I actually know some stuff about this.
Just so nobody gets any misconceptions...from when I did experiment with programs, they were on a community forum. People submitted their programs to the "admins" and they checked the programs for any malicious things...so it's not like 99.99% of programs were scams. There ARE ab'ers out there.

It's so sites recognize your user account...or that's how I think of it.

"From my experience, ABers have been in zip files with no install. It'd just be in a separate folder you specify. No install necessary."
There have been some advertised which say "put these files into system32". Also it can do this without the user knowing.
"If you change your password(s) then cookie grabbers aren't a problem. They don't "steal" your passwords exactly. It's so sites recognize your user account...or that's how I think of it."
They would be able to grab your new one. If they're on your computer, they have access to all files, including cookies. Programs on your computer do not work the same way as online cookie-grabbers.
EDIT: That post was in response to several adverts for ABers on the forum itself, so the bit about the suernames only applies to people who got it FROM those adverts ON the forum.

They don't exactly HELP you restock... more of a doing it for you =/
Basically you get the program, and if it isn't a virus, you enter in a list of what items to get, press go, and let it restock. Then, hopefully TNT will freeze you for cheating. Amazing right?

you can even get sued for using it!

i was actually sent a genuine AB from a friend once, so i got to see how it worked....didnt use it as a AB program, but the item lists were useful for awhile because i didnt have to create my own on what items are good to restock...then it got outdated and i deleted it...
