Unless if youre a super powerful user, odds are, "you", dont have a big bankroll. I have long reisted labbing, pouring tens of millions of neopoints into kitchen quests, and the training school, and the like to keep my pet trained. I am at the point though where I absolutely cannot train with the codestones anymore (2 red codestones is a total ripoff anyway, its ALMOST cheaper to negg it), and kitchen quests are limited in effectiveness.

So ive bit the bullet, and labbed.

Time is the most important element to any battledomer. Lose it, and you lose a chance to train cheaply, and you can either negg to regain time, or just lose those opportunites at hitpoints. Ive decided the 400 hit points a year from the lab are too rich to pass up. I will continue to kitchen quest, and continue to negg occasionally (to offset bad days from the lab on defense, and eventually to negg hitpoints), but 400 hitpoints a year... the equivalent cost in sneggs... is 50 million neopoints. Which is just disgusting. So yes, it hurts, and I want you all to feel my pain ^_^
I feel your pain - I gave up on the 2 red codes for training - I need to train to 400+ to do anything other than Level, and thats 3 reds... so definitely no way...

I never knew the training 2 times level /3 times level thing, so I way overtrained HP and because of that, I never was able to catch up and train STR/DEF with regular codestones... so the majority of my points are Faerie Quests, K-Quests and Lab Ray
well, I'm not to that point in my battling career yet (I'm up to the 5 codestone stage though)

As a bit of an aside: I'm guessing you're a poker player that plays at least semi seriously Sirhatter? Using terms such as bankroll and tilt, I'm also guessing you're pretty solid and not a fish based on your analytical mind which is evident from your battle analysis series.
can you explan a little more for this novice?

I've a level 20 pet that I'm trying to get to its max for the 2 dubloon lessons, then wave goodbye to the dubloon school for a while.. current market prices have the codestones being cheeper until it requires three, then back to 5 dubloon coin lessons.

I think I can have 40 str, 40 def, 40 speed, and 60 hp? before having to go to level 21?
Welcome to my world, hatter... muahahaha! Toungue
Yeah after a while it becomes impossibly hard to train...
nightwind, you do not need to train speed since it is almost useless and you should keep hp the same as str and def.

I'm working on balancing my pet since I know I will eventually reach sir hatter's problem, the wall^_^
q77 almost useless...
except that it was very useful to those who had it durring the last plot.

I intend to keep it in pace with the others. Just in case it ever becomes useful. I'm also playing clifhanger to the point limit on a regularly. Why pay for books when I can make money traning int?

At what point do you take hp above str and def?
You should take hp above str and def when at leat one is over 700...usually it is hard for some to keep their pet at 700 str and def so they only have 700 str and then hp goes upToungue

I'm not sure how speed wa suseful to thsoe who had it during the last plot...as far as I know agility is used in 1 weapon and that's all.

that is true, but don't bring your HP above your STR and DEF... because you wouldnt be able to train STR or DEF until you got to level 30. best bet is train STR def and HP equally. i wish I had known that. I was level 116 and HP around 350 when I realized that. I had to train to level 175 just to get caught up, but with faerie quests and K-quests knocking my HP higher and higher, I never evened out until I was above level 250 - the ninja school.

which weapon uses agility?
Heavy robe of theivery requires 200 agillity I believe.
I figured out about my hp problem at around the same time as you and now I've trained lvl to 250 so I can train at ninjaBig Grin
to petmaster: i used to play cards quite a bit. both of the speakeasys i frequented got raided though. i dont really care to play online (its way too easy to play below your best online, and way to easy to keep climbing up in stakes till you lose your money and I am a -EV player online, for a variety of reasons).

i occasionally go to AC, or play in small home games, but my days of playing 1-2 or 2-5 NL HE and 10-20 stud are more or less done iwth nowhere local to really play.

to everyone else:

i have some theories...

agility, sure, train it while its really cheap and really fast. once you get into 3 codestone territory forget about it.

the oldtimers school of thought was stop defense training at 150, stop strength training at 700, adn go from there. that was seen as outdated pretty rapidly

the newer school says stop at 700 for defense adn strength

i go for a third option

with a long explanation.

i think the number for me was 350 or 300, im not 100% sure, either way, at about 300 str and defense, i abandoned training either of those in the training school, and went solely with hitpoint training.

we all know that kichen quests, are pretty much the easiest way to train for any high level pet. you do 10 kquests, and you get on average 3-4 points among hp, str, agility and defense. nto all days youll do 10 (or even 2) quests, but its there whenever you need it, and neopets mom, myself, and others have thousands of quests worth of data of evidence.

my thinking is this: there comes a point, when those k quests look alot less good. if you already have 700 str and 700 defense, then you really only gain about 1.2 points a day, since that extra defense and strength is quite useless then. not to mention kitchen quests are aggravating and boring even with a decent chance of getting stats. when that chance drops to 1/8, im going to be emotionally done with them.

so i started relying only on kqs for defense and strength, knowing i can ALWAYS get those points from them, in addition to random faerie quests etc. I had used the training school for a long time to jack my endurance up to 3x my level. Now ive gone past that, and have just caved in and labbed. The good news is, i should hit 700 str and defense right around the time i hit 2000 hp. By then i should be a monstrous pet, even if that isnt till 2007
