Just a short test...

Assuming the attacker and defender have the same stats for everything (str same with def for both side), they use berserk, the attacker icon is 5 earth, the defender standard icon is 5 earth as well, does the defender receive damage?

possibly? because there's randomness so chances are the attacker will do some small damage.

No, the stance is calculated after applying defence.

never mind...

Anyway the answer is yes (the defender receive damage)

because... your defence weapon is not affected by opponent stance, thus, if the attacker attacking weapon is strengthen by his stance, the defender defensive weapon wont be... hence the defender receive damage
