Excuse my ignorance, but can a person equip 2 bombs in a fight? honey potion and a ghostkerbomb?

Yes, you can.

You actually could equip MORE than two bombs in a battle. For example, you "could" equip a Ghostkerbomb, Rainbow Clockwork Grundo and Honey Potion. While it CAN be done, it's not normally wise, especially if you expect your battles to last several rounds, as the once per battle nature of bombs tends to make you rely on two or three predictable items once your bombs have been used. In two player at least, this makes you VERY easy to predict and neutralize.
