I wrote a new system for wars to be as fair as possible, I thought it might be good for your iDB articles, if you want. Maxplay is my neopets name, so neomail me if you have any questions.
Here it is:

As I’m sure most of you know, battledomers (like myself) love wars . We work really hard to make sure our pet/s is in top condition for the upcoming battles. However, several people often complain (and rightly so) about the way the war works. After much thought and concentration, I believe I have come up with a system that will ensure fair battling for all, newbs and the experienced.
The system will work as follows. Similarly to the Maraquan war, when a new round of challengers come out, there will be three different levels of opponents, strong, medium, and weak. However, instead of being herded into a level like cattle, you will be able to choose your own level. This way, you won’t be stuck at a level that is too difficult for you. People can always deal with having opponents too weak; it just tries your patience more . There also could be a trial wave, to gauge your strength and see where you belong, so that you are 100% comfortable with your battling level. There will still be waves like normal, and the weaker opponents will be worth less than the stronger ones, even though they came out in the same wave. The next wave will also have opponents that are stronger than the previous weak, medium, and strong levels, and will subsequently be worth more than the previous wave. For example, the wave one weak opponent will be worth one point, the wave one medium: three points, and the wave one strong: five points. Then the next wave will be more than that, whatever the increment TNT decides to implement.
“Why do away with the old system and implicate yours?” You may ask, well I believe that there are certain groups of people getting stepped on with the old system, mostly mid-level battlers. These people are caught in a poor position for being smart enough to make their first million, but not lucky enough to several million. First off, the mid level battler rank is a rank you actually have to work for, like strong rank and unlike the weak rank, because any pet at all (even if it has had no training whatsoever) can get into weak rank. So if you work for this, and meet the bear minimum requirements (which we have no idea what they are) you are stuck with a bunch of opponents who can beat you easily after about two or three close wins on them. This would not be a problem in my system. This is also a problem for strong battledomers, if they meet the bear minimum requirements. Another issue with the old system is TNT choosing our levels based solely on pet stats. I believe their system did NOT take into account what kind of weapons we had bought. I know of some pets that I am much stronger than, but they could beat me any day because they have their Sword of Skardsen against my little Halo of Devilpuss. You can’t accurately group people based just on stats, its impossible.
As for the non-battlers, a completely different role will take place from the Maraquan idea of support role. To be honest, I thought it was a great idea at first, but then I realized how terrible it really was. First off, I’ve never seen any support rank with over 100 points, and I myself as a level one pirate warrior had reached over 1000. This really cut down on the supporter’s ability to buy good prizes with their hard earned points. Secondly, they spent pure neopoints to finish their quests. In the end, lots of people end up selling their prizes, and the thousands of neopoints spent on it did not make up for their bad prizes. This left them at a loss of profit, and dignity when they were sent to the poor house because they don’t believe in fighting.
Instead of this bad system, I would recommend implicating an entirely new system. When a crying noob always asks for more money, people always tell them to play games, so why not do the same for war points? There could be different ranks of the game players, just like the warriors, though they won’t be able to choose their ranks. Their ranking will be based on the average of their high scores. The lowest ranking game players will have 100% of their score turned into war points, while the second rank have half of their points earned from the game into war points, and the third and highest rank have one third of their points earned into war points. One might think this unfair, but you need to remember, those people are the best game players in neopia, they can easily earn that many. This keeps it fair, and the points even, creating a very little gap between the newbs and the experienced (except of course that the better players will most likely have more patience, strategy, etc.
In addition, there are a few other changes I would like to recommend involving stealing. First off, I think it would be a good idea to put stealing in again for wars. I thought and thought and I couldn’t for the life of me think as to why it was a good idea to remove it in the first place. If there really is some reason for this, someone please tell me, O_o. It would also make battling a lot more fun and interesting if you randomized the stealing system so that you didn’t always steal the first item equipped, but a random one instead. People didn’t spend 400k, raise their pet’s intelligence levels to one hundred, then get two hundred speed just so they had a 100% chance of stealing a wet snowball that someone equipped into the first slot just so you wouldn’t get their Super Attack Pea.
I believe in the end, if TNT were to adhere to some of my suggestions and listen to my valid points, we could all have a much better time destroying the next evil that threatens Neopia Smile.

Sorry about the last post that was in the wrong place X__X I hope I did it right this time, lol.
I'm actually pretty impressed. You offer a pretty rational, fair solution while keeping reform to a minimum. Though I'm sure there still would've obviously been some holes in that opponents per side and per rank were unbalanced, it's still fun to think of how the Maraquan War would have turned out had TNT implemented your change in addition to balancing opponens better.

As for why they stopped allowing sticky hands in wars, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it just saved the staff a lot of programming.
Maybe, I did submit this to the neopian times, maybe they'll post it O_o, who knows
Lol they'd better make new wars though I missed out on Lost Desert II
Nice Maxplay. I remember some of your very same arguments when the maraquan war. The problme there is that if you can earn points with any opponent well... the weak pets will have disadvantages.

Man, i like playing i don't think in profits... but i can understand your point.

I guess TNT make a nice thing with the suppot thing.

Good luck on the neopian times
i dont think newbies should complain. after all many of us have spent a huge amount of time and np in working to train our pets. u cant please everyone. the battledome is meant for battlers. if u r not one, stay out of the battledome and wars. there is a lot more to do in neopia than sit and complain that u cant make use one part of it. i dont have a fast connection. so what? do i sit and comlain the whole day, that i cant get jobs at the employment agency or i cant restock the best items or i cant feed Kadoaties ???????
i just shut up and play games and make np that way nad use that np on building up my pet
I think in profits Big Grin Though I think its a lot of fun as well. Newbies of course will have a disadvantage, they're supposed to. If it was all exactly fair, any noob could tie in points with featheralley, and that would suck.
Well it seems very logical. I must say I tried out the support role in the maraquan war and 2nd thing they asked for was over 1mil np lol, it did not work well, the game playing is a good ideaSmile

I like your approach to the BD, it would not make everybody happy but I think it would make a majority happy.

The only change I could suggest is that you could change your difficulty at any time in the first week or w/e , I am not sure if that is too much for TNT to do or not. Lots of people make mistakes (even with a test run first) so you could start off on easy and find it way to simple for you and change etc.
I disagree with your vision.I don't think that I or my friends will chose some harder opponents just because they worth more poins.Lol, i can choose the to beat a easy opponent 1000+ times and make up for the difference.
Plus the way i see it,Battledome is not for the weak ones.I had a weak pet(55hp,55 str and defence) in the first meridell war, but i wasn't complaining that i couldn't reach 1000 points and get a real prize.Heh, that make me wanna train more and i did it, and in the next war i had 125 boost in str and def.and crappy 5-7 iconers.
My point is that: if you see that you can't beat more opponents in a war like meridell 1-2,Hatic were, the problem is your pet or your weapns, not Tnt that didn't make a war in witch you could score 5k points. And thus you should focus more on gaining np and training and building your set.
I actually have enough patience to beat weak opponents several times, but I do like to fight stronger ones from time time to get myself a nice point jump, and I know the battledome is not for the weak... but non-battlers definitely out number us, so u do have to account for them, most of them are filtered out by the suppot part, but still. (and i never participated in meridell war, lol)
So why do you have to count non battlers? Why someone who doesn't like battledome that much should get a chance to battle and get a good trophy/prize?I think that the Com war was a fiasco with the "Let's help the weak ones get huge amount of wins" thing.
If you've done the number of points per user that foughtin that war..it was something like 60 points/user for maraqua and 90-100/pirates.And considering the fact that the majority were not low rang 2 fighters,...It leads me to conclusion that most rank 1 players got bored and didn't fought anymore. So this was a waste of efort for someone who didn't apreciate the efort that Tnt made.
