You won't see it again (most likely). I myself lost 352 posts through the wipeout Mellow
it's just post count guys Wink
If post count decides whether you get a pet...I prolly won't get one. I also lost about that many with the wipeout but 1k is...1k!!
My suggestion would be to keep the pet community entirely seperated from the forum community, with the exception of starting out.

I think that a user should not get access to pets until they reach 500 posts. At that point, they will be able to choose from a list of varied pets, get access to a Pet Community forum, and be given a set number of intial points to put into their pets (so that players will have a basis to start from).

I think that people should earn currency points for their pet based on participation in the Battledome (and whatever other activities we'll have thrown in).

Naturally two player matches would give out more points than one player matches, and you'd get more points for winning a two person match, but participation points would still be awarded to people who lose two person matches.

In one player matches, users would be awarded a number of points for winning based on the difficulty of the challenger, and would recieve no points for losing.

I think that also as a pet gets stronger, the amount of points its earns for doing the same task at a lower level, should gradually scale down, so as not to have users running away with an untoppable lead from the get go.

Also, on the points side, I think it'd be nice to get a small amount of points each day as long as a person manually collects it (like BBS) and pets could learn abilities to maximize the output of this daily pay. This would of course help newer players from being stuck at the bottom forever, help curve the cost of feeding/grooming pets, and of course it helps prevent the entire pet community from coming to a grinding hault due to an utter lack of currency among all the players.

And I'll spare you all my ideas for the inner workings of the battledome for now, to help preserve brain cells.

lol you should go to private forum, some of this have already been suggested.... but speaking of your "separate" idea... if we do that, why make a post requirement... why not just only let people in by invite?

Abuse. If anyone would be able to walk in or be invited in by another user, the system would be much more subceptible to cheating (for instance, by multiaccounting). Rather than having to assign people to track down and punish users that do this, it'd be a whole lot easier just to eliminate temptation with an intial posting requirement...

And while you use "quotations" around my "seperate" idea, don't forget that I mentioned "with the exception of starting out" in the opening sentence. Mellow Wut?

And if I had access to the private forum at the moment, I assure you I'd be there. Sadly, though, I don't, so I posted here, which means I'm going to have to write you up for a peeking ticket. You can make your check of 25 fun dollars payable to Finalhit. Arrow the Chicken

Edit: Actually, thinking about it, a required account age could work just as well for invites without even sparking the slightest temptation to spam.Devil

i put quotes to say like, when you said to make pet and forum community separate... and i meant it like... only mods can let people have pets, it could be like a usergroup, and to get into the usergroup, a mod must add you...

Oh okay... yeah, I suppose mod approval only would work... if not permanently, as least to start out. Smile
I agree with what jetman said. We should have the raters/mods see if a member can get a pet. To catch attention, a member can message a supermod, who will either let the member get a pet or put up a poll/thread in the priv forum so taht everyone else can post pros/cons of the person. At first this would be troublesome since there are so many members but later on once most active members have pets, then requests for pets will become less common.
*sends finalhit a PM* Me like math!

If we base getting a pet on post count, that really doesn't work because people will spam for the pets. I would instead be enclined to get 5 or so "pet mods" who are all respected, active people here. The pet mods would browse the forums, and reward "stat points" to members who they see benifiting the forums, through smart WaaC posts, adding battledome stats, taking part in battledome contests, ect... they would also remove stat points from those who are clearly worrying about pets too much, or from those who are like "The pets mods hate me. They never give me anything" . In the old forums, boing was the standard and expected. If we make it so that stat points are REWARDS for good behavior, people will just have to be good =).
just fyi, we still need some more serious people who want to help design the new pet system. Disclaimer: you will have to do some work when you choose to join, so if you just want to be a bystander, you're gonna have to wait until the game is actually released.
