I was in the battledome today, and I fought a few pets from Hong Kong and Taiwan. The weird thing was, both of those pets were equipped with both Bronze Scorchstone AND Lesser Healing Scroll. What's up with that?

DON'T use burrow more than once. They said before dozens of times that it's a freezable offence.
In Chinese (not sure Traditional or Simplified Chinese) they kind of "group" healers by type. Change the language, and you'll be able to equipt (for an example) one healing potion, scorchstone, and healing scroll at the same time, but you can't have more than one equipt at one time each. For stickyhands, changing to Korean will enable you to equipt shoryu grappling hook and any stickyhand at the same time, and changing the language ANYTHING EXCEPT ENGLISH when use allows you to even equipt TWO stickyhands (not sure if any combination can, I only know than Red+Purple; Purple+Yellow; Rainbow+Green works). There was a time long ago when there wasn't a limit one, after the rule was implemented they said something like "unequipt the limit one items by yourself, you don't want us to help to unequipt them for you =)" doesn't sound very strict though.
You can experiment with it but don't ever use it just in case.

Yup, in my mind, the benefits of playing under a foreign language on neopets, easily outweighs the familiarity of playing in English.
Luckily, I'm bilingual and know German well, so I get the benefits of no offsite advertisements, and faster pageloads.
I'd be weary of taking liberties with the differences though, because I've noticed particular things that could be easily defined as abuse, and getting your account taken away for (I won't even say it, so as not to encourage it), and other small benefits, just isn't worth it.
But I'd say the battledome item restriction bypasses are the least of your worries when it comes to language skin holes.
