I have no statistics, but I trained through deadly dice with different pets. My low-level-pets won levels in the majority of cases. My high-level-pets (40+) mostly loose levels. The higher the level, the lesser the chance to win.

Every odd second you gain a level. Every even second you lose a level...
I think this is right. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Sinhab, that's what I've heard too. I also heard that right on the minute, you tie. Can anyone confirm this tonight?

I've heard that for the odd and even seconds. I can confirm the tie. I accidentally did it one night while trying to loose a level to train and I clicked on :59 and tied with him. I read that if you roll again and lose, you lose ALL your levels so I didn't want to risk it. And unfortunately, the next day did not refresh the roll and so I've been stuck on a tie for weeks now until I re-roll.
If I'm wrong about losing all levels, please correct me.
*edit* Ok, I guess I was wrong about the losing all levels. Either tineneohelp or pinkpt was wrong in their guide. Thanks for clearing that up. =)

Well clearly it's not lose all levels as in: level => 1; not many people would be doing Deadly Dice if the stakes were that high.
But say you've tied once - that means if you lose now, you lose 2 levels.
If you tie twice in a row, then lose - you lose 4 levels. So on.
You lose as many levels as you would have gained.
However, I have heard that if you have the avatar and then lose to him, you not only lose the avatar, but also the chance of ever getting it again.

Haha, I lost the avatar. Woot, I gained 2 levels, lost 3. I think I've counted my losses, and I wont play him anymore.
Edit: I played again tonight, my pet was level 15, gained 2 levels when I clicked on odd times. I got back the von roo avatar, so the myth that you lose it forever is not true.

I don't know about not having a chance to win it again if you lose it, but I can say that losing to him when you have the avatar does NOT mean you automatically lose the avvie.
I have the avatar, and I tried playing with him, using the odd/even thingee, for probably ten days a few weeks ago. I lost probably six of those ten times, and he never took the avvie back.
I finally quit playing, because my connection lags too much for me to be able to reliably register my click on the odd or even second (fwiw, it appeared to me that you win on even and lose on odd), and I was terrified I'd lose the avvie if I lost any more. As a somewhat serious avatar collector who'll never have any of the flash game avvies, I need all I can get, so I stopped playing. =D
