The Tenchi series is pretty good. I haven't seen the movies yet. I bought the Tenchi In Tokyo Complete Series a while back (only $25 from Best Buy for all 26 episodes). Animation-wise it's not as good as Tenchi Universe and Tenchi Muyo...which I want to get sometime down the line but also can't spare for it considering semester is starting...but it's still a good series.
I remember watching it back in the day when Toonami wasn't downgraded.
I agree with you on Perfect Blue. I stumbled on that one on Starz-Encore a couple years ago. It's a real trip....pretty graphic and suggestive in some places so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't like psychological thrillers and can't stomach some intense situations. Overall, very good movie.
I bought the first volume of Elves a long while back and haven't watched it since '02. I remember the story...with the tank and the spells....I guess I should watch it again sometime.
I've got a few DVD's I don't mind selling since I don't plan on completing the series in the future. I'd rather make some room for the ones I will.
Newtype JAP is far ahead in terms of material and covers than the USA one. Of course, that's a given but still.
If you aren't so attached to them I'm sure you can sell the older issues. They may be collectable antiques since you bought them in the 80s.

! I needn't say any more about this one. Absolute perfection! Well, I'm a huge Motoko fan, so it's a biased opinion. And Yoko Kanno outdid herself... the music is outstanding. Far and away, the best full-length movie I've ever seen, ousting Princess Mononoke as my fave. I'd give this an 11 if I could. 10/10
Is it really that good? I loved GitS:SAC. My college's anime club showed Solid State Society this summer, but I wasn't taking classes this summer so I missed it.

They showed SSS as the opening attraction on Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday last month. I missed it unfortunately.
The first Ghost movie, which started the entire series, was amazing. I hope they show it again on Starz.

Ah yes, I remember watching them too. The good old days of Toonami... I miss Tenchi and Gundam being played.
The movies are on par with the series. Not amazing, but not bad either. Tenchi Muyo in Love is my fave of the three.
LoL the deal with the tank cracks me up! *meow*
Agreed. Amazing as the first movie is though, I think it pales in comparison to Innocence and Solid State Society.

Yes! The movie is incredible. It's one of those movies, where you think you have everything figured out. And then when you find out the truth you're like,
*jaw drop* Wait a minute! You mean... noooo way! It can't be! *blink blink*
Needless to say, I watched it a second time the following night to confirm what I saw was real and that I wasn't tripping like that girl in Perfect Blue

Sadly Tom betrayed us all when he said Toonami would keep it old school. Their old lineup was amazing.
Tenchi - Outlaw Star - Gundam - .Hack//Sign - Yu Yu Hakusho - Big O - Zoids
Just to name a few. I wasn't even bothered watching Hamtaro. That little hamster kinda grew on me. They even had Cardcaptors (not CCS but the butchered US version). IGPX wasn't bad but I didn't follow that one too much.
Then the really old school Reboot was the it. And you had to give it up for their Music Videos and the Toonami mini-series they had every so often when redesigning the ship and all that.
Midnight Run and Adult Swim was top-notch too...Cowboy Bebop, 8th MS Team, etc...
Adult Swim run now is alright. Bleach - Blood+ - GiST - Trinity Blood but Toonami...oh, man...Toonami...
Naruto is fine but the rest....damn...
I remember watching X-1999 on Encore several years ago. That too was a real trip...not psychological like Perfect Blue...but the story and visuals lurked over me for a while.
UGH...even thinking of Toonami at the present makes me ill. I watch Saturday night because there is nothing else to watch but....
IFN started airing some anime on Friday nights a few months back. So far they have shown Gunslinger Girl, Basilisk, and are currently on Samurai 7.
So little anime here: why, OH WHY, can you not carry The Anime Network DirecTV? Why??
Oh wow... I forgot about most of those than ran on Toonami/Midnight Run. So good, I want them back
I can never seem to catch anime on any channel other than CN. It bugs me, I want Sci-fi to bring back Saturday Anime
Berserk roxxors my soxxors! Had to say it, I'm hooked

Watching it for the third time already. LoL
It's that time of year again...anime club start-of-semester event. The competing animes this time are Planetes, Love Hina, and Bubblegum Crisis. We'll see the first episode of each and vote on them, and one of them will shown during the semester. So once again I ask anyone who has seen any of those to give their opinion.
Other anime that will be shown this semester: Hare Guu, 100 Stories, Noein, Genshiken

Was that what you were saying on IRC? I had no idea you were talking to me... ^_^;
Anyway, out of those 3 main options, I like... none of them. Seriously, in my eyes, those are all junk, plain and simple. Boring slice of life with mediocre art, disgusting harem and well... an old series that hasn't dated very well. That's my take on the above.
As for the others, Noein is somewhat interesting, though a bit convoluted. Not bad though. 100 stories is a tad graphic and rather disjointed, no recommendation there. Other two I haven't seen, but from what I've heard, Genshiken, which is supposed to be an otaku-insider type of anime (think Lucky Star), didn't appeal very much to the friends of mine who watched it and fit into that category.
I'd post a huge block of text commenting on the dbml/fox248 bits prior to this, but it'd really end up being tl;dr...

100 stories will be the Halloween marathon.

In other words, a combination of the previous 2 Halloween marathon animes: Elfen Lied and Boogiepop Phantom.

Although calling Elfen Lied "a tad graphic" is like calling the ocean "a little wet".

Understatement of the year.
