Quote:Neon Genesis Evangelion (lol psychology... and it gets depressing. I still adore it, though. End of Evangelion was just weird, especially the ending, but I like that. Bits of gore here and there, moreso in EoE.)

Watching Eva is comparable to waking up with a massive hangover and enjoying it. It's mental yet very deep and twisted. The theatrical ending (End of Evangelion) was breathe taking to say the least.

If your a fan of Eva or like intense battles following a decent storyline then I'd recommend watching Karas: The Prophecy. The CG and visuals are by far amazing for an OVA. You'll need to watch it twice to get the plot. It still has great re-run value.

Quote:Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

I can't really comment anymore on that one. My favorite series. Although short a second season has been scheduled. Let Haruhiists rejoice.

I don't really know what to say about Bleach. It's great..but long yet it doesn't "play" that way. With each episode, however, it keeps me interested. And the Opening and Ending songs are catchy even if you don't understand a single word.

Some series I recommend watching:

Kare Kano (His & Her Circumstances) - Don't let the cover description fool you. It's more highschool soul searching drama and comedy and I avoided it for a while because of that until I watched an episode.

Great Teacher Onizuka - Comedy. Drama. Action. Antics. You'll want a teacher like this watching.

Gunsmith Cats - Short yet sweet. "Girls with guns" wouldn't cut it to describe GSC.

Vandread - Good storyline. Comedic characters. Nice animation and CG work.

Some good but not great series:

Air Gear Interesting yet lacking. Storywise it's off yet has a nice cast and a good base of material.

Noein Also interesting and lacking. Good basic plot but becomes too technical in it's execution. Nice visual effects and characters. ~ Sci-Fi Mondays at 11PM EST

LoL! My experience with End of Eva was a bit different. It was like a nightmare I couldn't wake up from, it was so demented and sick. And then that thing with

*looks it up* Oooh... that does look good. *adds to list of anime to get*

For me it's that they foreshadow what's coming up way too early. So I get all excited to see Ichigo fight someone tough... but he goes through a dozen other lesser guys and takes 5 episodes or whatever to get there. I'm like, just hurry up and beat 'em! Waiting

And I agree! The Bleach tunes are very catchy Toungue

Oh man. There's just so many series that people are listing that sound good. I'm gonna have a hard time figuring out what to buy when I make my next anime order XD

*small gripe* Why does it seem to take so long for boxed sets to come out?!  Fullmetal Alchemist still doesn't have a boxed set! That's been out for a long time now. Ghost in the Shell, 2nd Gig still doesn't have one either. I've been waiting long enough for those two to get one Waiting XD

Ahhh....for a second I thought you were going to bring up the notorious Shinji-Asuka "incident".

The deaths are somewhat disputed. The fact that 'Rei' appeared before each person like she did when the Third Impact occured implies that they may have been "saved" so to speak and are capable of coming back if they choose to.

It's a lot of analysis but the interpretation is what causes confusion. Hopefully the Rebuild of Evangelion which is going to be released from this summer until 2008 will clear things up. The first release is out in September in Japan. 4 Theatrical movies are set to be released going over the entire series with a new look at the ending.

They're coming out with one I think. I bought the first 3 Volumes a couple years ago so I'm stuck buying the next 10 individually instead of a thin pack or boxed set to save money. Amazon, Half.Ebay, and RightStuf have great deals. Advfilms usually has knock out sales every so often but their shipping occasionally takes long due to high volume sales and it's costly ($9 which makes up for the sale price). However, if your buying in a ton of DVDs or in bulk then it's well worth it since that $9 applies to your whole purchase.

I don't like buying thin packs even if they're cheap. I enjoy the extras and not just the episodes.

I still budget and only buy DVDs on occasion when they're real cheap. The only problem with that is I tend to get interested into a new series enough to start buying it while I have yet to complete the ones I already started.

With Code Geass being licensed in the Fall...damn...expensive. Also look that one up.

LoL I wasn't thinking of that incident Toungue

I was just royally confused by what exactly happened. I wasn't sure if it was a rebirth of the planet, or armageddon. It was incredible, but diluted at the same time. I hope the new one will straighten things out as well.

I did that with Ghost in the Shell, 1st Gig. Cost me nearly twice as much as the box set ended up selling for x.x I'll have to check those places out, they might be better than where I buy mine from (discountanimedvd). Their stuff is usually pretty cheap, and you get free shipping when you order over $100 worth of stuff, so I make 2 or 3 purchases a year from there. This poor college student is broke after my last order a week ago Toungue

I looked Code Geass up... looks very good! It's a neverending battle! For every movie/series I buy to take off my "list", I add two more XD

Mike note: Post spoilered due to some spoilers
*won't quote due to spoilers*
Even though your explanation kinda makes sense, it still confuses me Toungue I'm gonna have to watch that again one of these days.

Quote:RightStuf had a huge sale on Geneon titles. 10 DVDs for $50, 25 for $100. Last week they have a 40% off VIZ media titles. They ship fast relatively. My first order I made on a Monday night and got it by Friday the same week.

*jaw drops* Ohmy Uh... seriously? Geez! I guess I should shop around to see where the best deals are, that's incredible!

Yes, the voices better be good! Unlike the ones for Bleach, Urahara's and Rukia's especially. Bah. The anticipation to see the movie is still driving me nuts, and it's a long ways away x.x

I've heard of Death Note. It's sounds okay. Code Geass sounds better personally.

I'm really looking forward to Ergo Proxy. Well, the release of the box set, at least. I watched one episode of it subbed, it looks amazing.
I bought the Platinum EVA set with all the added extras. Remasted audio and video and it's rather cheaper to buy the singles than the thin pack.

Yea, RightStuf sales are sweet but I still prefer Amazon marketplace over it since I tend to place just single orders and not buy in mass and don't want to spend too much in one go.

I saw the first episode of Ergo. It's pretty nice and the voice work is great for it dubbed.

Really? Uruhara and Rukia I thought were pretty good. The cast for Bleach was excellent with minor exception to Uchida.

Yea, the Bleach movie. Damn, it probably won't be available until next year. They're coming out with a second one also. I know I'm going to be buying the entire Bleach series and at 4 episodes per DVD...I probably have to stop and just wait for a Season Box Set like what they did with Naruto. And the Naruto movie is out on DVD in September. Going to have to pick that one up. It's not a bad series just strung out so much it's irritating. Bleach does that a little like you sort of said but Naruto is so much worse....and his voice is nerving most of the times.

Damn VIZ and their long-running series...

Bandai picked up Geass I think. Knowing that you can rather expect some good dub work. They did a nice job of Gundam and Geass has sort of the same feel.
The only extras I care about are trailers for new movies/series that are coming out. The rest are just... meh.

The dubbed Ergo is good? That makes me happy Toungue

I must be biased towards the japanese voices for them. I prefer the subbed Bleach over the dubbed, the voices fit the characters so much better. I'm gonna stick to the subbed dvds for Bleach, since they're a long ways ahead of the dubbed, and it's cheaper. The movie... I better not have to wait that long! x.x The first dvd release of it better be subbed.

Naruto is hard for me to watch. It's an okay series, but his voice grates on me. I can't stand it. It's like the voice equivalent of nails on a chalkboard to my ears XD

Agreed. Bandai = goodness.
I always lean towards dub with exceptions for a few series. I've watched a clip of Bleach subbed and it didn't cut it for me. And reading and watching with the japanese track playing gives me a headache.

I sometimes pick up a Newtype USA magazine, depending whose on the cover for the month. The insert DVDs are pretty good if you want to watch episodes from different series. Although they had to cut back a bit from previous years but if you didn't buy it when they first came out then don't worry. It's still worth it if you can spare the money.

Ha. If I have some spare cash, I'll look into that Toungue

Phew. Been watching all the anime I got from my huge purchase... for the last two weeks! A few comments on the stuff. I'll try not to spoil anything, but I might not be able to help myself.

Yep. Anime is good.
I remember buying several NewType Japanese editions during the 80s and wishing I could make out more of what I was reading. I got a Charter subscription to NewType USA when it first appeared: only $89 for two years. Then "self-directed employment" kept me from renewing, and now I never have enough spare cash to justify taking out another.
