My fauvorite anime is Samurai X, Inuyasha, Samuray Champloo, Digimon (only 1st and 3rd), Zoids and Naruto.
ohh and before i forgot who can say me a good Samurai X page? im about forgot the 10 shishio assasains
Hmm... Me being who I am, I cannot resist the temptation to comment on those choices!

As a purist, I absolutely insist you stick to calling it Rurouni Kenshin instead of Samurai X, the latter refers to the OVAs/movies. Good pick though.

I'm a big fan of IY, it was one of the first series I ever fanboyed about.

I detest Samurai Champloo though, seems nothing more than a senseless, violent series to me. No offense meant.

I HEART Digimon Tamers! Digimon Adventure was decent, but got kinda spoiled by the inane pile of trash that is Digimon 02.

By Zoids, I assume you're referring to the original Zoids: Chaotic Century. I'm not too impressed by it, and much prefer the most recent series, Zoids: Genesis.

Naruto... Refer to my post in the Naruto thread for my thoughts on it.

And if it's just the Juppongatana you want, I can reel them off from memory. (Toungue Yeah, I'm that far gone in fanboy terms) Anji, Chou, Fuji, Hennya, Houji, Iwanbou, Kamatari, Saizuchi, Soujirou & Usui.
Animes I would like would probably be DBZ since it had a great storyline, plot was spectacular and you could relate to almost any charcter on the show. You be anything from a small person with a hiden gift that makes you a great person or a egotistical nut that wants to rule the universe. For those who know the series I am talking about Gohan and Freiza.

Another good anime would be FMA or Full Metal Alchemist if you didn't know what I was talking about. Like DBZ great plot and the characters are hilarious and it always keep you on your feet. Favorite chacter goes to Colonel Roy Mustang the F;ame Alchemist.

One Piece is another one of my favorite mostly because its hilarious and you can keep laughing since they never repeat the same jokes. Characters all have very different personalities. Goes from the lover boy chef to the smug swordsman (Sanji and Zoro).

Naruto is probably my favorite by far for the funny characters, action packed plot and it always keeps ya on your feet. Refer to the Naruto thread that I made for more details lol. Thread been going over a year and is still going like the enegizer bunny.
Sort of, but not quite, but yes anime-related tie-in:

Would be nice, neh?
And you people call yourselves anime fans... hmph! I'm shocked it took so long for Akira to be mentioned! What about the other classics? Ever heard of Vampire Hunter D (and of course the sequel VHD- Bloodlust)? Ninja Scroll? These are must sees, especially Ninja Scroll. The amount of gore/nudity is quite rampant in both though... so they aren't for everyone.

My favorite series is by far, Blue Gender. Most people I know thought it was garbage as all they saw of it was a mech series that had horrible design flaws, but there is so much more to it than just a simple mech series.

Hm. As for dubbed vs. subbed, it really depends on the series. I love subbed for Bleach, as the voices fit the characters so much better (not to mention their overacting is hilarious!). Although for series with a lot more action and moving things on-screen (aka FMA and Ghost in the Shell) I prefer dubbed so I can follow it better.
Wow, this has gone on from 2005-2007. Yay for long-running/constantly kinda-sorta-necro'ed threads. Anyways, I started watching anime a few days ago, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually good.
So far, I've watched:

Neon Genesis Evangelion (lol psychology... and it gets depressing. I still adore it, though. End of Evangelion was just weird, especially the ending, but I like that. Bits of gore here and there, moreso in EoE.)

Claymore (Not finished yet, but it's a great series. It rushes through the opening/boring/generic volumes of the manga in a few episodes, then spreads its wings. It *is* rather gory, as a warning.)

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (A quirky little gem. Laden with comedy and pop culture refences, but it does have an undercurrent of drama. References to offscreen nudity are present, and minor amounts of fanservice exist.)

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (Already reviewed by Spaz, kinda. Parts of some episodes are embarrassing to watch o_x)

I'm looking at anime that y'all have recommended. There seem to be so many good ones out there that I'm having trouble deciding which ones to watch first :3
Hmm... Nitpick, nitpick, nitpick.

dbml's

Asynchrony's

I guess some input from me, given all my comments, is needed. I wouldn't exactly call these 'recommended' but they're my favourites, so... *browses his AniDB profile to find the highest ranked*

Erementar Gerad
My all-time favourite. I have yet to pinpoint exactly what attracts me to this somewhat clichéd space drama, but nothing has ever given me the same warm and fuzzy feeling this always does when I watch it. Romance here is the epitome of what I believe romance in anime should be (CCS isn't too far way though), instead of all the disgusting harems, triangles, same gender attractions and whatnot that abound. Action isn't spectacular, but good all the same. Plot is solid with a good amount of fantasy elements. Errs very much on the moral high ground, too. Who likes overly badass characters, anyway? Altruistic ones like Coud here are so much more preferred. And if everything ended as well as this, then the anime world would be a better place.

Following are in no order of merit.

Card Captor Sakura
Yes, it's mahou shoujo (magical girl). And one would think that someone of my age would've far outgrown such a series. Well, yes, I first watched this when I was 11. But even now when I pop in the movie CCS - The Sealed Card (looks so much more impressive on an LCD TV than it used to look on the CRT, LOL), I still find it highly enjoyable. The simple plot excels because of just that, simplicity, kiddy though it may seem, characters are incredibly well-developed, and SxS is just... *clamps mouth shut to forestall the squeal, but fails miserably* KAWAII! Not for everyone though, this one, many will find it far too childish for their tastes, assorted costumes coupled with wand transformation and calling out card names when you hit them with said wand can be quite a strain.

D.N. Angel
A series quite obviously targeted at a female audience. Yet I count it among my favourites. Probably because I value romance far more highly than the average male fan. Art here is excellent, plot and character development likewise, pairing high on the kawaii meter (notice a pattern here?). Ends satisfyingly, too. There are slightly disturbing elements designed to appeal to the target audience of female fans, but not overly so. And did I mention the adorable critter that is With?

Gundam SEED
Stay as far way from that horrible excuse for a sequel that is GSD. I used to think Gundam Wing was the ultimate mecha series, but this just blew me away. Scores on the most important count: mecha designs, Forbidden and Providence are particularly spectacular. Plot moves along nicely (which can't be said for GSD), and protagonist Kira develops along with it, going from royal pain in the butt to very likeable hero. Action is just whoa! without mechas being overly imbalanced. And as always with my favourites, KiraxLacus is a very cute pairing.

Ouran High School Host Club
Most hilarious series I have ever watched. The less said about the art, the better, but everything else about the series will leave you on the floor laughing. Concept itself is excellent, satirising the way female fans often regard male characters, and the characters are just so incredibly over-the-top. Tamaki is a one-man comedy skit. Serious episodes are interposed occasionally, but work very well with the madcap episodes instead of breaking the flow. Regrettable lack of concrete romance (this is in fact, a reverse harem!), but the humour more than makes up for it. This one is highly recommended, but some of the jokes might not be caught if you're new to the anime scene and its fandom.

The above are those I rank most highly. Others which I rank decently include D.Gray-Man, Eva, Inuyasha, Shakugan no Shana, Shaman King, Tales of Phantasia - The Animation, The Third and Zoids: Genesis. Maybe I'll rant about those another day... =3
My favourite would be Bleach... right up until the end of the saga with the Captains and such. The ending kinda disappointed me. Cry

to dbml: I've seen Vampire Hunter D, it was pretty good. Big Grin Haven't heard of Ninja Scroll though...

And if you didn't guess from my username, I USED to like Beyblade, new gen Beyblade sucks >_>

Quote:I liked Vampire Hunter D. One of the few things I watched the dub for instead of the sub, heh. No idea what Ninja Scroll is though, I'd look it up but I'm just too lazy. And I'm somewhat ashamed to say this, but I belong to the group of people who think Blue Gender is garbage.
*gasp* I don't understand why people don't like Blue Gender. It's the only series I've seen that is practically void of smiles and laughter. Sure, it takes itself too seriously at times... but it's a good change of pace from the humorous series I usually watch. Especially with how you believe you value romance higher than the average male fan (I feel the same way, I enjoy a good romantic storyline), now I'm totally confused as to why you didn't enjoy Blue Gender, as I feel it has one of the best love stories ever in an anime. It's well hidden amongst the blood and gore, but it was there... I thought.

Quote:I much prefer the subbed versions to the dubbed versions, not just because I've done fansubbing in the past and am therefore biased in that regard, because I find the Japanese seiyuus just so much more competent than what they use for the English equivalents. Doesn't help that with dubs also comes cuts. *shakes fist at Cardcaptors* And I really don't see how dubs can be more easily followed than subs...

It's easier for me to follow dubbed anime when there is a lot of action going on. I have a hard time reading the subs without missing small pieces of what is happening on screen Toungue I have issues with a LOT of groups that do subs. I'll use Bleach as my example. With the exception of Dattebayo, most subs I've watched are terrible. It's clear a different person does each episode, as there is a huge change in quality from person to person. Sometimes it's almost on par with Dattebayo, and others I swear it's a 7 year old Japanese kid who has one year of english under his belt subbing it. Horrible spelling errors, names are spelled wrong, or given different names entirely. And another thing that bothers me, is that you hear a character say several lines... and all that appears on screen is a single word Ignoring

And uh... to both matt's Toungue Go watch Ninja Scroll! It's far better than Vampire Hunter D (personal opinion of course) and has more action than DBZ... without all the standing around. It's one of the few movies on my "must see" list.

Of all the series you've ranked highly, matt_hui_ck, I've only seen Gundam SEED, and I agree... it was incredible. It's a shame Adult Swim hasn't run Gundam in a long while, I wouldn't mind watching it again.

mattybeyblade- I've become addicted to Bleach, and it has the #2 spot on my all-time faves list locked up after watching up through episode 107 (It would be #1 if the series actually "ended" Toungue) The anticipation for the upcoming movie is killing me! x.x

Well... must've been too well hidden, I guess. XD Maybe I'll give it another go, I'm pretty sure one of my college club members has the DVDs lying around somewhere...

Agreed, good translators are often at a premium. And even the good ones tend to juggle too many projects and end up turning in sub-par episode transcripts. I've ventured into translation before, and soon found my Japanese terribly inadequate (even when translating with a dictionary next to me!), yet I'm fairly certain many groups use translators with worse Japanese than mine...

Methinks I'll see if I can get a hold of Ninja Scroll. Though given its age, it might be somewhat difficult to find someone who has it...

Bleach for me suffered from the same syndrome as Naruto, when it first started out, my interest was captured, but as it went on, and on, and on, and on, and on, I just tossed it aside.

mattybeyblade Wrote:And if you didn't guess from my username, I USED to like Beyblade, new gen Beyblade sucks >_>

The third season wasn't as bad as many think (well, at least not as bad as the fiasco that was the second season) but still wasn't that great (Needed more TyHil! *cough*). New Gen Beyblade did one thing right, improved the character designs (old Tyson is just... Blegh) but everything else went out the window.

Yes, I suppose it actually could be too well hidden. I never noticed the romantic aspect the first time I watched Blue Gender, I was only interested because of the fighting Toungue Years later though, after getting old and more mature (supposedly XD) I picked up on the romance pretty quick.

LoL I'll cry if you college club doesn't have Ninja Scroll, even if it's an old VHS copy. It was one of the first ones my college club got. We never get tired of the classics. Jubei is my hero! ^_^

I can relate to Bleach "dragging on and on"... it does get pretty bad at times. But if you didn't get up past say... episode 50 or so, you will not be disappointed if you start watching again. That section of Bleach has the best magical-infused fighting I've ever seen, in a movie or a series.

At least you're willing to try! There needs to be more quality translators out there. It's so hard trying to follow the dialogue at times when the you're trying to piece together the broken english and spelling changes. I've been watching Final Fantasy X lately... or trying to watch it, at least. Talk about horrid, the names of the characters that I grew so attached to playing in the game, have changed radically! And the rest is broken english at its finest. I'm not sure if I'll ever finish it... it's so taxing on the brain reading that... stuff.
