Random thoughts on a bunch of anime I've watched in the past week. Analyze the shows, comment on my comments, criticize my taste, ignore everything, whatever :3

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: I think three episodes are out right now. It seems to be a fairly standard romance, with the quirk that the main female lead is into anime. It's alright, but I got ticked off when it turns out that they knew each other in the past. That happens in every single show like this, I swear. And the male lead is probably a repressed otaku or something, because he saved the female lead from her depression in said past by giving her a manga magazine. Sad;; but I'll keep watching it because I enjoy nearly all romances.

Clannad + TomoyaxTomoyo OVA: I'ma get one thing out of my system first- I majorly love this show and Kanon and AIR and Planetarian and related stuff. Pretend that that was all in one breath, or whatever the internet equivalent is. Anyways, pretty art, cried at Fuko disappearing (going to go import the game just so I can get some resolution to her story, heh), wanted TomoyaxTomoyo in the beginning but then 23 episodes of TomoyaxNagisa kinda influenced me... I feel like I'd betray them if I picked one over the other, lol, so I'm going to say that I like both pairings equally. Actually, I think I'll go with the Tenchi Solution! Yes, definitely. Nobody should be unhappy Sad

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru: average. Meh. Not too much to say, other than that once I convinced myself that the blatant overuse of shoujo CG was a deliberate lampshading/parody, I enjoyed it a lot more. Also, this series is fairly unique in that I was actually wrong in predicting the main love interest. For a series that was so trope-ridden, that was a major achievement. Ending sucked, was a typical sequel-opportunity one.

Shakugan no Shana I + II: Me likey. I'm a bit of a drama hog, so even the horribly lengthy swathes of flashback and drama (I'm looking at you, early-mid II) didn't put me off. Fights were well-done, and I'm looking forward to the third. The graphic novels aren't that far ahead, so I suppose I'll have to wait a bit. Eagerly anticipating comatose Kazumi. Also, I love Kugimiya Rie's voice, so hah.

Zero no Tsukaima I + II + III: omg fanservice. Lives on UST. That's all I'll say (but Kugimiya Rie is still pretty good).

Hayate no Gotoku: Continuing on the Kugimiya Rie roll, a comedy rich in shout-outs and metahumour. On episode 20-ish right now, and still liking it. Actually has a semblance of a plot as well, which serves to draw me further in.
Yup, at that moment, for a sec, I wanted to kick his butt XD To belive in reincarnatior that way, was he insane? XD

Guess what caught my eye? I'm a horrible, horrible person. Toungue

I'm watching this, for now. Don't quite fancy the extremes they take when portraying both otakus and they way society views them (please, if even in Japan they are shunned, I am doomed Ohmy ), mind you, but romance is always good. =3 I am running off at the first sign of harem hijinks though, the fear of which put me off picking up the show till a friend bugged me into it. The OP is a bad omen, really. And loser males leads are off-putting.

Ew, Kyoto/Key fanboy. Shutup Not going to bother saying anything negative here. Just that Fuko was one of the most annoying characters ever, and that playing the game has a tendency of making you ship TomoyaxNagisa (based on my own experience and that of others I've spoken to). Which is why I get infuriated when people slam the choice of end girl for the anime, especially the Kyou fanboys (her character in the game is just... bleh).

Asynchrony Wrote:Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru

Poor animation, concept that just scared me, and harem hijinks all in one. I think I dropped this almost immediately.

It put me off, on the other hand lol. Tell me again exactly what purpose Konoe served? Harems ftl. I screamed in outrage in episode one of II when it turned out Yuji didn't hear Shana's confession. *headdesk* As a side-note, Shana OPs and EDs have almost all been very good, heh.

This one really has no plot. Not even any semblance of WAFF for me here given how Saito is such an obnoxious skirt-chaser. I'm just waiting for him to go back to his old ways in III (friends are keeping me updated on this since I can't bear to watch any more).

Asynchrony Wrote:Hayate no Gotoku

I understand the appeal of this, but for me personally a lot of the attempted jokes just fall flat (narrator has barely drawn a giggle from me since the start, for example). And Nagi is annoying.

Checked out Nabari no Ou for an alternative Rie Kugimiya-voiced role? Granted the bl makes me want to tear my hair out (I'm still praying for a straight Miharu pairing, but recent revelations in the manga about Yoite leave me grasping at straws) but I haven't been this engrossed in a series for a while. Great action and character development (I <3 Kouichi), no clearly demarcated good and bad sides, all in all very satisfying (minus the bl Closedeyes).

Other recent stuff of interest... (only the good, mind you)

Gundam 00: Started incredibly promisingly, what with very serious and relevant themes of war, politics and moral dilemmas. Character development was going strong too, and mecha action glorious as ever. Then came the Gundam Thrones, and 00 descended into typical Sunrise trainwreck fodder. *sigh* Season 2 coming up, can't say my expectations are PARTICULARLY high, since I see typical Sunrise gimmicks (returning from the dead and masked men) popping up already. Gundam 00 has VERY good music though.

Amatsuki: Many derided this right from the start because of its slow pace and overall emphasis on conversation to drive the series rather than action. I consider this one of its strengths, however. The plot is sufficiently intriguing, animation more than decent, and I enjoy the historical setting a lot. Cute pairing, too. Innocent

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Masterpiece. Absolutely brilliant. GAR at its best, great action and plot mixed though with a dose of comedy, yet not without its serious themes. But horrible, horrible last couple of minutes. Cry

Watched other things, but nothing to overly recommend. ef, Bamboo Blade, Night Wizard, etc.
I just finished watching Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig last night. I was a little disappointed by it, but I guess it's hard to live up to the first season. I loved the opening, both music and animation, but it felt a little short. This season started off great, but the middle to end wasn't as good.

I still enjoyed it, it just wasn't as good as the first season. 8.6/10 (first season was 9.0/10)

Edit: Forgot to say, I loved the twist endings of the first season. Those were largely absent from 2nd Gig.
Ahh...Code Geass. It takes some getting used to. A good series but lacking in parts. I was disappointed about Bandai and their dub choices, which take a while to get used too.

As far as the Second Season goes...
