I really liked the first dozen or so episodes of Death Note. However, it just went downhill for me sometime after that and I stopped watching it. =x
Keep watching, it gets better!
Two reviews to do. Yaaay...
Blood+:
Ya know, sometimes I get confused with my ratings. I was going to give this series a very high mark, prior to finish watching Death Note. But now I can't and it's rather disappointing.
Loosely based on Blood: The Last Vampire. The main character, Saya, goes around killing bat/vampire-like monsters called Chiropterans with a really sweet sword. Lots of crazy stuff ensues.
Unlike the OVA, Saya doesn't want to fight. She's a total pushover of a schoolgirl, and remains that way until over halfway through the series. Up to that point, a LOT happens, but it was mostly just background info on everyone with very slow progress of the plot. The last 1/3 of the series though focused entirely on the resolution of the plot, which was nice for a change. No huge revelations in the few last episodes for a twist, it had a very clean-cut ending. For the first series in a long time, every question for me was answered. No gaping plot holes or forgotten characters, the series closed perfectly.
All in all, it was a great series. Being over 50 episodes long it did drag at times, but it always picked itself back up. And I must say, the "new" Saya's (when she stops being a wuss) outfit is wicked cool. Call me crazy, but she looks great in purple/maroon trenchcoat and boots
I give it an 8.5/10.

Death Note:
Okay, so I just finished watching this series a few hours ago, so everything hasn't fully sunk in yet.
What a series! Raito (Light), is a brilliant kid. He finds himself a Death Note, which is a shinigami book used to kill people by writing their names in it. He tests it out, and likes it. He ends up with a serious God-complex and starts taking out all the world's criminals. He wants to take over the world. Nobody knows who the person doing it is, so the brains of the world get the best detective on the case to find him: L. The rest of the series is like a great game of cat and mouse after that, with some huge plot twists.
At a couple of points, I thought the series was going to mess up and ruin its glory... but it never did. Some of the things that happen blew my mind. This was the first series where I actually hated the main character. I screamed at the tv numerous times, hoping he wouldn't kill certain people. Gah! She was cute too! !*#$! Why'd you have to kill her?!
Speaking of cute... I thought Misa was adorable. Heh, if I find a death note, could I get a Misa to go with it? :*
The ending. First impression, I hated it! I really did. But after some thought, I realised it was the right ending for it. Wasn't as clean-cut as Blood+ since I still have questions, but I have no qualms about it now, it was a solid ending.
The questions I have, and some killings that I didn't like, prevent me from giving it a 10. What a shame, I really wanted to. It's gonna get a 9.5/10 for now. At least until I fully grasp all that transpired.

Also, what's up with anime prices?
Yeah, no kidding. I noticed the same thing with Death Note: $35 for the full box set, $25 each for the 3 pieces that make up the set. It doesn't make any sense at all.
As for why, well, wiki "ODEX", would ya?
