Quote:Once upon a time far far away there was a king who lived in a castle. Everyone around him loved him, his royal family, the presents, the knights, the wizards, and the web footed amphibians that swam in the pond. Life was good. Then, like what always happen in fairy tales, something happened. Subjects started disappearing left and right. Large wolf tracks were spotted in the soft soil of the castle. Locks were found bent and broken, wizardry supplies stolen and missing, rumor even had it that some of the knights planned to betray the king and that there was a gang of renegades who wanted to take the castle as their own. Grim faced, the king feared nothing he could do could save his beloved castle. Until the bard came.

Quote:
One morning not long after the trouble began, a lone man was traveling along in his wagon. Next to him sat a small, furry monkey. The monkey climbed upon the man's neck and chattered. “Hi there little fellow,” the man said. “We’ll be at the castle in a few hours. I’ll give you your lunch then.” Seeming to understand, the monkey hopped down on the seat besides the traveler. Soon they passed another wagon, this one leading away from the castle. A family sat in it, and as they passed the father slowed down the horse and addressed the traveler.
“Where are you headed my good sir?” he asked.
“To yonder castle!” the man replied.
“I must warn ye,” said the father. “Strange things are afoot there. Strange enough for me to take my family and flee. I would not step near that place if I were you.”
“So I have heard,” replied the first man, “But I have been through several battles, I do not fear another scrape."
“Very well,” came the reply “Just don’t be surprised when you find a sword through your heart.”
The woman, who was sitting besides her husband now spoke. “Now John, don’t say such things! Not with the children around!”
The man turned to his wife “Ah very well. Sorry Marm. Good luck to you sir, I hope you have a better fate than I have foreseen.” The man spurred on the horses leading his wagon and soon disappeared behind them.
The first man turned to his monkey. “Aye, troubles a brewing in the castle. Just our kind of thing, eh mate?” The monkey chattered affirmatively and hopped back on the man’s shoulder.
Soon they arrived at the gate of the castle. The man yet out a yell. “Open the gate so that I might come in.”
A man on top of the wall looked down, “Who are you and what brings you here?”
The first man replied, “I am Palamo the bard. I have heard that your castle is in danger, and I have come to help.”
“Yet another useless mouth,” thought the man on the top of the gate. But the castle had never turned anyone away before. “Very well. Come in,” he said. “Though I doubt you can be much of a help. The danger is too great already!”
“We will see about that!” replied the bard.
Soon the whole town was assembled in the great hall. There the bard was brought before the king.
“You have said you can assist us.” Said the king “Please explain.”
“You see this?” asked Palamo. “This is my crossbow. Each day you all will tally a vote for me. Depending on the results of the vote, I will fire one of these arrows into the heart of a member of the castle. By this we will hope to kill off the threats to the castle. Then, in the morning, my friend here and I can check to castle to see who was hit during the past night.”
Suddenly a cry was heard. The crowd turned to see the body of the gatekeeper, lying mauled upon one of the tables, large claw marks running diagonally across his back. The king gave another sigh. “I see we do not have much of a choice. Very well, carry on with your plan. It seems to be our only hope.”
Palamo smiled and called to his monkey to climb upon his shoulder again, he turned and addressed the castle. “I cannot do this alone, You must all use your skill to help assist the town. Together we can help rid the castle of this threat!”
A resounding “Huzzah!” came from the crowd. From the looks of things, their hero had finally come.
XD Sorry, just couldn't help myself.

Quote:Early the next morning Palamo again adressed the crowd. Thankfully nothing had happened the last night, yet everyone was still fearful. "I have much to report," Palamo said. "First off, the King and I have deemed it that the king goes into hiding until things have been settled here. Thus we need a replacement king..." he turned to WIS. "Sir Watericesage, For the rest of today, you shall be the king. Your work on his first challenge was deemed the best in the land. Enjoy your powers while you have them." He placed the crown on WIS's head. The crowd cheered. Palamo again adressed them. "This is not a time to party," he said. "There is work to be done. Look! The sun is near high in the sky! It is time we got to work!" The monkey on Palamo's shoulder chattered in agreement.
